Jan Hoet Square and Robert Hoozee Park - 2004

2004, Ghent (BE)

The museum square, located in between the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Museum of Fine Arts, provides a diversified landscape that invites for everyday use. It allows a play of separation and approach, of seeing and being seen, of hearing and being heard… a possibility of relating to one another in plurality.

In our design, a sheet of cobblestones is draped like a carpet above the existing topology of the park:  around the trees, along the current buildings and occasionally even as far as into the pond.

With the square, we bring the edges of both art institutes to the public sphere, open to human interaction.
